2 Samuel 24:21-24 - Then Araunah said, "Why has my lord the king come to his servant?" And David said, "To buy the threshing floor from you, to build an altar to the LORD, that the plague may be withdrawn from the people." Now Araunah said to David, "Let my lord the king take and offer up whatever seems good to him. Look, here are oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing implements and the yokes of the oxen for wood. All these, O king, Araunah has given to the king." And Araunah said to the king, "May the LORD your God accept you." Then the king said to Araunah, "No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God with that which costs me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
Judgment came on King David's sin. Then David had to build an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah. (2 Samuel 24:18)
When King David tried to buy the threshing floor, the oxen and everything he needed for the sacrifice, Araunah wanted to give it to him. David would not take anything and offer it to the Lord which cost him nothing. He insisted in paying for everything.
When we give to God, truly giving to God from our hearts, we must experience some sacrifice. Our giving must cost us something. To be a significant seed our giving must represents a portion of our lives. Only then it can bring a good harvest.
When we bring our seed to the Lord we must keep in mind that we do not give to man but to God. When we do that we will experience the following:
1. We will experience the desire to give our best to God. When we sow our best seed, God cannot do anything else but to give us his best. The best harvest God can give He will give it to us.
2. We will experience the desire to give to God first. Our first fruits belong to him. When we give the first we know what is left for us, will be blessed and we can expect a great harvest.
3. We will experience the desire to check our attitude. We should give generous and with a willing spirit. If we give just because we have to, we will loose our blessing. Jesus Himself said "freely you have received, freely give" (Matt 10:8). This must be our attitude towards giving.
Another portion in the word which clearly shows the goodness of God towards us is:
Exodus 15:26 - and said, "If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you."
Again we see that God gives us His best and we should do the same by giving our best. God's goodness is a promise which we find all through scriptures. If we can learn to sow to the Spirit (Gal. 6: 7-9), hearing his voice and doing his will according to his word, we will reap his goodness in abundance.
